PROGRAM OVERVIEW
An 8–hour infection control course is required for all DCHP prior to employment in a dental office; this course fulfills the California Dental Board of California requirements for initial RDA licensees but is not the one required for licensure renewal, that is a 2-hour Infection Control continuing education course.
This 8-hour infection control course covers the definition and implementation of sterilization methods and CDC/OHSA guidelines. It covers basic Microbiology, prevention of cross contamination, and the proper use of personal protective equipment. In addition, verification of infection, disinfection, care of treatment room, handling and disposal of hazardous waste, handling soiled instruments, hand pieces, burs, waterlines and air syringes are presented.
Students must provide protective eyewear, or goggles can be purchased from the school prior to the class. Masks, gowns and gloves are provided by the school.
The course consists of lectures and laboratory instruction. Students must demonstrate proper protocol of operatory management and sterilization techniques. A written exam on theory is administered and students must score at least 76%. To prepare for the written exam, study materials and a workbook to be complete will be provided upon enrollment via email.
After successful completion of this course, an Infection Control certificate will be awarded.
