Phlebotomy Technician


At Contra Costa Medical Career College, our Phlebotomy Technician 1 program is designed to supplement current healthcare experience, and prepare students to become practicing, state-certified phlebotomists in the State of California. Phlebotomists are trained allied health professionals who draw blood from patients for medical testing. Getting trained and certified in Phlebotomy can enhance your resume and help position you for greater employment opportunities.

In this program, students learn human anatomy and physiology, as well as proper safety procedures, patient preparation and blood draws, post-puncture care, specimen transport, professionalism, and stress management.


In the Phlebotomy Technician 1 – Avocational Program course, you will learn:

  • How to collect and process specimens
  • How to explain medical procedures to patients
  • How to update patient records
  • How to prepare stains and reagents
  • How to clean and sterilize equipment

Phlebotomy Technician 1 Program Overview

    • A choice of 4 weeks, 5 weeks or 10 weeks

 Contra Costa Medical Career College’s avocational Phlebotomy Technician course is offered in person. Students learn classroom theory and complete hands-on training in on-campus labs.

Many of Contra Costa Medical Career College’s Phlebotomy Technician graduates go to work in hospitals, clinics, and diagnostic labs. Our Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services and comprehensive job placement assistance.

Contra Costa Medical Career College’s Phlebotomy Technician 1 course is an avocational course intended to supplement existing healthcare experience and provide additional skills so that students may advance in their healthcare careers. Students learn human anatomy and physiology, as well as proper safety procedures, patient preparation, and blood draws, post-puncture care, specimen transport, professionalism, and stress management. Our hands-on training prepares you for the tasks employers are hiring for, so you can step confidently into your healthcare career. Our Career Services department also provides every student with a wide range of support services and job placement assistance.

Graduates will receive a Certificate of Completion and will be prepared for the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician Examination.
