PROGRAM OVERVIEW
This 32-hour Dental Board of California approved course is for dental assistants wanting to learn the proper techniques of dental x-rays. This course is offered over 2 weekends. Students will receive full instructional training in radiation safety and must pass a written examination with at least 76% on the first day of class. To prepare for the written exam, study materials and a workbook to be complete will be provided upon enrollment via email.
The course includes conventional dental radiographs, processing, and mounting films. Instruction in Digital radiography is provided utilizing DEXIS. Dexter mannequin training is done in class and 4 patients* are required. Patient clinics will take place on the 2nd weekend. One patient’s film MUST be conventional and the remaining 3 digital. To successfully pass the patient, there can be no more than 3 errors in each of the patient series.
*Patients must be at least 18 years old, have 20 natural teeth, no orthodontic brackets or bands, have not had an 18-image FMX or chest x-ray within the last 12 months and cannot be pregnant. Patients must be prescreened by a licensed Dentist and DDS must sign the provided health history. A business card must be attached.
Students must provide protective eyewear, or goggles can be purchased from the school prior to the class. Masks, gowns and gloves are provided by the school.
After successful completion of this course, a certificate in Dental Radiology will be awarded.
