At Contra Costa Medical Career College, our Dental Assistant program is designed to prepare students to enter a dental career in the healthcare industry. Dental Assistants work closely with dentists to provide quality patient care, performing important administrative and clinical tasks to support dental offices.

This 43 week program provides students with intensive training emphasizing dental practice office management, dental assistant procedures, chair side assisting, dental anatomy, radiography and imaging.  Students in the Dental Assistant program learn from professional instructors, and receive world-wide on-the-job experience through Externship.


In the Dental Assistant program, you’ll gain the skills to:

  • Welcome and assist patients with professionalism and care
  • Support dentists and hygienists during examinations and procedures
  • Capture and process X-rays safely and accurately
  • Take precise dental impressions for treatment planning
  • Create molds and crowns to aid in restorative dentistry

A dental assistant supports dentists by preparing patients, sterilizing tools, taking X-rays, managing appointments, and assisting during procedures to ensure smooth, efficient dental care and patient comfort.

Contra Costa Medical Career College’s Dental Assisting program can be completed in as few as 43 weeks.

Contra Costa Medical Career College’s Dental Assisting program is offered in a hybrid-online format. Students learn classroom theory online while completing hands-on training in on-campus labs. All students also gain valuable experience through an externship.

Many of Contra Costa Medical Career College’s Dental Assisting graduates go to work in dentists’ offices and dental clinics. Our Career Services department provides every student with a wide range of career support services and comprehensive job placement assistance.

In Contra Costa Medical Career College’s Dental Assisting program, you’ll gain real-world skills to work in dental offices. From greeting and preparing patients for exams and treatments, to managing dental records and insurance forms, to assisting dentists and hygienists, to taking X-rays and dental impressions. Our hands-on training prepares you for the tasks employers are hiring for, so you can step confidently into your healthcare career. Our Career Services department also provides every student with a wide range of support services and job placement assistance.

To enroll, applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and a Wonderlic SLE exam score of 13 or higher. Before beginning the Dental Assisting program, students are also required to complete certain prerequisites. These include an orientation session, which must be completed prior to DA 99, and DA 99: the 8-hour Infection Control in Dentistry course. Both the orientation and DA 99 course are scheduled before students begin any other classes.
